At the age of 14, Close saw an exhibition of Jackson Pollack's abstract paintings, which helped inspire him to become a painter. Throughout his career, he has concentrated on portraits based on photographs he had already taken and has been called a Photo-Realist, Minimalist, and Abstract Expressionist.Profile:An American artist noted for his highly inventive techniques used to paint the human face.
